Being tiny has its ups and downs. I am 163 cm ( 5’3) and I have completely embraced it, but all you short girls will understand these daily ‘struggles’.
1, A lot of my close friends are basically the same height as I am ( even though they won’t always admit it and think they are taller), but most of them are taller than me ( especially my family) and trying to keep up with them is nearly impossible. For every step they take, I basically take 10.
2, When I went to the cocktail festival in Shanghai ( you can read more about this in my adventures in China blogpost, see link down below) I wore some killer heels! Of course with my experience of going out in heels I brought a pair of back up flats with me. Whilst wearing my heels the people I was talking to thought I was small. Imagine how surprised they were once I had changed into my flats.
3, I am definitely a shopaholic, but there is one thing I hate about shopping. Buying trousers can seriously suck! I have probably never found a pair of trousers or leggings that are not to long for me (and that I don’t have to roll up) and don’t even get me started on ripped jeans. I just love this trend, but most of the time when the holes are supposed to reach my knees … they don’t.
4, Have you ever noticed that at our height we are always referred to as ‘cute’ or ‘adorable’, no matter how old we get. Which can be very nice sometimes and other times it will make me feel about 6. My poor mum still has people telling here this ( I might be one of them).
5, My sister is 2 years younger than me. We get along great and she can be pretty awesome most of the time. The one main issue I have with her is that she is taller than me. Because of this people keep on thinking she’s older than me!! I should get over this I know, but it’s really hard when she enjoys rubbing it in my face every chance she gets. Sisters …..
6, It can be such a struggle trying to get to stuff that’s up high. It feels like I am Dora the explorer when I am climbing on countertops and chairs just to get a glass.
Even though being short isn’t always great, there are a few things that are just awesome about being petite.
- Like being able to use large people as a human shield
- You can wear heels and still not tower over people
- You can basically take naps anywhere
- There is no blanket too small for you
- Commercial flying is a breeze, because legroom is never a problem
- Everyone loves to hug you because you’re the perfect size to cuddle!!!!
So don’t forget the perks of being small, because as my mum always says ‘Nice things come in small packages’.
Let me know your short girl problems or perks in the comments!
